In the sixth round of Group C in the Champions League Tatran Presov lost in Russia to Chekhovskie Medvedi 28:29.
Tatran started the match in an outstanding way. They continued with efficient defence and led 7:4 in 11th minute. Chekhovskie Medvedi came back quickly as they used technical mistakes of
Slovakian side. In the first half Tatran was led by Russian right back Peskov, who was brought up in Chekhov, scoring 5 goals. The half time ended in a draw, 15:15.
In the second half Medvedi took the lead 17:15 in two minutes, but next eight minutes Tatran dominated the game with 5:1 streak, 20:18. Left winger of Tatran Jakub Hrstka scored eight goals leading Slovakians to their second consecutive victory over Chekhovskie Medvedi. But finally little mistakes of Tatran and experiences of Kovalev, Shelestyukov, Alexander Kotov and Santalov decided about the narrow victory of Russian champions 29:28 in the dramatic and nervous end of the match.
The coach of Tatran Presov Rastislav Trtik evaluated the game really briefly and clearly: “It was a very close clash, in which home team were luckier side during the whole game. But not only good luck of Russians decided the match. We are tired after playing eight games in four different competitions in October. In next 10 days we have to play other five matches, but we will fight hard.”
The left back of Eastern Slovakian team Dominik Krok only confirmed the words of Tatran´s coach: “It was a tied game from the beginning till the end. Both teams took the close lead several times during the match. Russians were luckier side in the end. We were really sad and disappointed that we did not manage to win in Chekhov, because we could have won the game and gone up in the table of Group C. We made a few mistakes in defence and attack, which decided about the narrow win of Russian team. It is a big pity, we could have taken two important points but we finally did not.”
Tatran Presov remain the bottom of Group C with two points. In the seventh round of the group phase in the Champions League they will host Portuguese Futebol Clube do Porto. The game is scheduled for Wednesday 11 November 2015 in Tatran Handball Arena in Presov, Slovakia.
